In 1967, Battersea Town Hall almost became a swimming pool. Although the proposal was never realised, the possibility remained as a fictional layer within the building. Almost Here invited participants to revisit Battersea Arts Centre through this imagined history and to search for traces of a pool that never existed.
1967년, Battersea Town Hall은 수영장으로 전환될 뻔했지만 결국 실현되지 않았다. 그러나 그 가능성은 건물 안에 하나의 가상의 역사로 남아 있다. Almost Here는 이러한 상상된 역사를 바탕으로 참여자들이 Battersea Arts Centre를 다시 바라보고, 존재하지 않았던 수영장의 흔적을 찾아보도록 초대했다.
Observation and Exploration
The workshop began with a collective exploration of the building. Participants observed architectural details, textures, ornaments, and overlooked fragments throughout the space. Rather than documenting the building as it is, they were encouraged to interpret these details as possible evidence of the hidden pool.
워크숍은 건물을 함께 탐색하는 과정으로 시작되었다. 참여자들은 공간 곳곳의 건축적 디테일, 질감, 장식, 그리고 지나치기 쉬운 흔적들을 관찰했다. 건물을 그대로 기록하는 대신, 이러한 요소들을 숨겨진 수영장의 단서로 상상하고 해석하도록 제안했다.
Transformation and Imaginationy
Using a web-based interface, participants captured selected traces and transformed them into imagined objects. Through outlining, inflating, and modifying forms, ordinary architectural elements became fictional artefacts belonging to the imagined swimming pool. Participants also contributed short written observations, memories, and descriptions that gradually formed a shared archive.
참여자들은 웹 기반 인터페이스를 통해 발견한 흔적들을 수집하고 상상 속의 오브젝트로 변형했다. 윤곽을 그리고 형태를 확장하는 과정을 통해 평범한 건축 요소들은 가상의 수영장에 속한 물건들로 변화했다. 또한 참여자들이 남긴 짧은 문장과 기억, 묘사들은 점차 하나의 공동 아카이브를 형성했다.
Collective Performance
These individual contributions were brought together through a live audiovisual performance. Generated objects, texts, and moving images were projected into the space, allowing participants to collectively experience the pool they had constructed together. Observation became interpretation, and interpretation became a temporary shared environment.
개별적인 기여들은 라이브 오디오비주얼 퍼포먼스를 통해 하나의 경험으로 모였다. 생성된 오브젝트와 문장, 움직이는 이미지들은 공간 속에 투사되었고, 참여자들은 함께 만들어낸 수영장을 공동으로 경험했다. 관찰은 해석이 되었고, 해석은 잠시 존재하는 공동의 환경으로 확장되었다.
Creative Learning in Practice
Almost Here approaches creative learning as a process of noticing, imagining, and making together. Rather than teaching a hidden history, the project created conditions for participants to reinterpret their surroundings and collectively construct new meanings through participation.
Almost Here는 창의적 학습을 함께 발견하고, 상상하고, 만들어가는 과정으로 바라본다. 숨겨진 역사를 전달하는 대신, 참여자들이 주변 환경을 새롭게 해석하고 참여를 통해 공동의 의미를 만들어갈 수 있는 조건을 구성하고자 했다.
