Quantum Overlay
An interactive web artwork gives visible form to the connections between art, design and learning. Soft shapes merge and drift apart, while touching the words lets the viewer enter this changing field.
The work emerged while rebuilding the artist’s website and considering how to show the structure of one practice. Artistic sensibility, technological structures and learning contexts offered overlapping trajectories for the visual system.
The reference to quantum states functions as a metaphor for coexistence. It provides a starting point for imagining how several possibilities can be present within the same field.
Thinking through touch
Built with Cables.gl, the real-time visual responds to tapping the words. The forms approach one another, collide, merge and separate, allowing relationships to be explored through a simple gesture.
The interface concentrates on touch. A viewer’s action becomes part of the visual response, turning observation into a small experiment with proximity, contact and change.
A connected visual system
A node-based patch connects the forms, motion and interaction into a responsive system. The relationships shown on screen are produced through this connected structure.
The patch and source code are available on Cables.gl under a Public Domain Dedication. Opening the patch offers another way to encounter the work, through exploring, modifying or reconstructing the system that makes it move.
Art, design and learning take form through their changing relationships. Touch offers a way to explore those connections from within the work.
